JDBA’s

professions. By fostering innovative thinking, teamwork and design
leadership, we are able to focus on our clients needs and deliver
successful projects. All JDBA staff have earned degrees from leading universities in California and throughout the nation. Some of the core staff include:
James D. Black, AIA, AICP, LEED AP
Mr. Black formed James D. Black Associates in 1989 for the practice of
architectural design and urban planning. With 35 years of experience,
for the last 25 he has served as a Principal in Charge of several Los
Angeles based architectural firms, including JDBA. Mr. Black has had
primary leadership responsibility for the design of hundreds of major
commercial, retail, and institutional projects. The total construction
cost of these projects is in excess of $800 million with many
individual projects over $20 million. He has also led multi-disciplinary
design teams in over 300 significant expansion and modernization
projects, in addition to new construction.
Mr. Black is a licensed architect in California, Utah, and Arizona; LEED
accredited, and a Certified Urban Planner. He serves on the AIA
California Council Advocacy Advisory Committee, is a member of the USC Architectural
Guild, former Chairman of AIALA Urban Design Committee, and for six years
served on the Board of
Building Appeals of the City of Manhattan Beach.
