Key Staff

  JDBA’s success as a firm is built upon the professionalism and dedication of our people and the integrity of their relationships with our clients and allied professions. By fostering innovative thinking, teamwork and design leadership, we are able to focus on our clients needs and deliver successful projects.  All JDBA staff have earned degrees from leading universities in California and throughout the nation.  Some of the core staff include:

James D. Black, AIA, AICP, LEED AP
Mr. Black formed James D. Black Associates in 1989 for the practice of architectural design and urban planning. With 35 years of experience, for the last 25 he has served as a Principal in Charge of several Los Angeles based architectural firms, including JDBA. Mr. Black has had primary leadership responsibility for the design of hundreds of major commercial, retail, and institutional projects. The total construction cost of these projects is in excess of $800 million with many individual projects over $20 million. He has also led multi-disciplinary design teams in over 300 significant expansion and modernization projects, in addition to new construction.

Mr. Black is a licensed architect in California, Utah, and Arizona; LEED accredited, and a Certified Urban Planner. He serves on the AIA California Council Advocacy Advisory Committee, is a member of the USC Architectural Guild, former Chairman of AIALA Urban Design Committee, and for six years served on the Board of Building Appeals of the City of Manhattan Beach.
 
 
 

Clinton W. O. Lum, LEED AP
As a Project Manager at JDBA for thirteen years, Mr. Lum has completed many major projects in addition to numerous expansions, modernizations and renovations. His responsibilities range from design development, to coordination of consulting engineers, to construction administration. Prior to joining JDBA, Mr. Lum interned at The Landau Partnership in Santa Monica where he participated on a multi-use office/retail/residential redevelopment project in China and master planning for a new ski resort in the states. Swiss architectural magazine Archithese published one of his theoretic designs produced during his studies at USC, where his focus was building technology and alternative design methodologies. Mr. Lum is LEED accredited.

Evelyn Ibarra, AIA
Ms. Ibarra has worked as an economist and urban planner for various California city governments, including San Francisco, Oakland and Berkeley, as well as cities in the Philippines. Her experience as a Project Manager and Architectural Designer includes institutional, commercial, mixed-use, and residential building types. Her experience ranges from designing a new university in Ghana, Africa, to working in forensic architecture for structures under litigation, performing site surveys, documentation and analysis of construction defects, and producing construction documents for reconstruction. A licensed architect in California, she won the Ashesi Foundation design competition in 1999.
