JDBA recently completed the design for HVAC upgrades to
Alfred J. McCourtney Juvenile Justice Center for the Los Angeles County Internal
Services Department. Due to the deterioration of the original 1960s
equipment, insufficient volume of conditioned air was being supplied to the occupied spaces of the
building. The JDBA team’s redesign involved combining both the existing hot
and cold ductwork to distribute cool air and coupled this with the installation of
a hot
water reheat loop and new mixing boxes to modulate temperatures in response to
thermostat readings at perimeter zones. The scope of work included replacing
supply air handlers, associated structural upgrades and modifications,
reworking of the existing ducting system, installation of new ducts, new
mixing boxes, new pumps and controls. Construction is phased to allow
continuous operation of the facility with no down time.
