All JDBA design
projects respond to existing community contexts, and are sensitive to
the historical character of the setting. For new projects in
designated Historic Districts, JDBA urban planning and design go a step
further to preserve or restore the original architectural design of a
building or neighborhood character. These efforts include everything from
respecting the period and nearby building types to maintaining original
architectural elements of existing structures.
JDBA has also completed formal historic restoration projects involving
in-depth investigations and analysis of buildings. In those cases, in
addition to required health and safety code upgrades, JDBA adhered to local,
regional, or Federal historic guidelines, such as the Secretary of the
Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitating Historic Structures and Standards
for the Treatment of Historic Properties; and California Historical Building
Code, Title 24, Part 8. |
