Allison Plaza is an existing four-acre
commercial center in the heart of Warner Center. Developed in the late
1970s, Warner Center is within the Woodland Hills district of Los Angeles
and is considered the business hub of the San Fernando Valley. Occupancies currently include commercial office and retail uses,
including a TGI Friday’s restaurant, two banks and general offices, as
well as common areas surrounding a central plaza, and surface parking.
In 1992 the owner of Allison Plaza, also one of the original developers of
Warner Center,
began plans to remodel the site and buildings, and increase parking
capacity. The mission given to JDBA was to modernize, renovate, and add a
new parking structure to the site. This plan developed into a five-year
phased construction program in order to permit all businesses to remain in
operation and allow the income stream from leasing to finance the
renovations. In addition to
accommodating pedestrian and vehicular traffic, construction phasing was
also complicated due to damage sustained by structures as a result of the
Northridge earthquake of 1994.
JDBA scope of work involved complete site and building renovation and
earthquake repairs. The design incorporated planned changes to the Warner
Center Specific Plan and design standards, such as parking ratios and signage. Modifications to existing facilities included
renovations to surface parking areas, access compliance, landscaping and
irrigation systems, new area lighting, decorative brick paving, and
installation of water features.
